Youth & Family Ministry
Many people say they wish they had been involved in a church like Unity when they were children.

Unity of the Valley Spiritual Center offers a dynamic spiritual education program for youth — from nursery through high school.

Through the use of art, music, games, story-telling, reading, meditation, prayer, cooking, laughter and joy, our children learn the basic teachings of Unity in an atmosphere that encourages self-discovery, God-discovery and compassion for all living things.

Unity’s Five Basic Principles for Children
  1. God is all good and active in everything, everywhere.
  2. I am naturally good because God’s divinity is in me and in everyone.
  3. I create my experiences by what I choose to think and what I feel and believe.
  4. Through affirmative prayer and meditation, I connect with God and bring out the good in my life.
  5. I do and give my best by living the truth I know. I make a difference.
One of the ways children in 1st through 6th grade can increase their understanding of Unity teachings in through the God In Me program. Offered at our church for the first time last year, God In Me is an annual program featuring a booklet of activities to be completed outside of church with parent / guardian supervision and encouragement. Each step in the booklet is signed off by the family and the teacher. When the booklet is completed, the child is honored at a completion ceremony in June. Participation in this program offers a great opportunity for children to become grounded in spiritual principles that can guide them for life.

Call out the Children...
By Myrtle Fillmore
Cofounder of Unity

Our mission is not to entertain the children, but to call them out. To be always entertained is to be dwarfed and dependent. To be "called out" is to follow the harmonious law of the soul's unfoldment. Who meddles with the rosebud? What fingers are deft enough to pry open that marvel of folded beauty? We are wise enough to leave it alone to follow the glad law of its own unfolding, but our children! Have we dealt as wisely with these buds of marvelous possibilities? Have we always remembered that they, too, must quicken and unfold through the innate law of their own genius?
